Opening and funding your account

Two tracks, nine steps. What each one needs, what it costs, and how long it takes before you can place a first order.

How to open and fund an account

What the account costs
Account opening $0 · KYC and profile verification $0. You pay to trade, not to hold an account: brokerage at 0.29% per transaction. Moving the money costs separately; see track two.
How long it takes
Typical, not guaranteed. Approval is usually quickest for resident Indians whose documents are complete and whose KYC checks raise no issues; NRIs and foreign nationals typically take longer. Funding typically depends on your bank and on whether you remit before the 1:30 PM cut-off.
What to have ready
PAN, proof of identity, proof of address, and your bank and financial details.

Track two

Fund it under the LRS

Money reaches your account with ViewTrade IFSC in GIFT City by remittance from your Indian bank under the Reserve Bank's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) — up to USD 250,000 per individual per financial year, across all permitted purposes combined. This track is for residents of India; NRIs should see funding from an NRE or NRO account.

  1. Choose your bank in the platform

Most major Indian banks that support online LRS transfers. You can use your existing account — there is no new one to open.

  2. Download the remittance instructions

The platform generates the net-banking instructions for the bank you selected.

  3. Initiate the transfer

Your bank converts the rupees to dollars and remits them under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme.

  4. Funds are credited

Typically fastest when you initiate before the 1:30 PM cut-off from an integrated partner bank; later transfers, other banks and bank holidays typically take longer. These are typical times, not guarantees.

Two costs sit on the remittance itself, not on the account. Your bank applies its own exchange rate and markup when it converts the rupees, and TCS applies at 20% on LRS remittances above 10,00,000 cumulative across the financial year — collected by the bank, and creditable against your income tax, so it is a timing cost rather than a fee. What investing costs sets out both.

An LRS investment remittance has to come from your own bank account under the prescribed purpose code. UPI, forex cards and money-transfer services such as Wise or Western Union cannot be used. More on funding.
