AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is not listed in India: its shares trade on Nasdaq in the US as AMD. A resident Indian can buy them under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) through a GIFT City app or an overseas broker, often in fractions from about US$1. AMD Industries (NSE: AMDIND) is an unrelated Delhi packaging company.
Key takeaways
- How to buy AMD shares in India: open a GIFT City app or overseas broker account, remit under the LRS and buy AMD on Nasdaq.
- AMD closed at US$552.72 (about ₹52,351) on 21 October 2026, pays no dividend and reports next results after 2:30 am Indian time (IST) on 4 November.
- ₹50,000 buys about 0.95 share, for about ₹440 (0.88%) all-in on one app’s fees and SBI’s 21 October rate.
- Tax collected at source (TCS) is 20% above ₹10 lakh of LRS remittances a financial year, as banks charge it; gains are long-term after more than 24 months.
Can you buy AMD shares from India?
Yes. AMD’s common stock has traded on Nasdaq since 2 January 2015, when it moved from the New York Stock Exchange. Residents pay with LRS money, up to US$250,000 a financial year.
AMD’s 2025 10-K names “significant operations in … Bengaluru and Hyderabad, India”, but its Indian subsidiaries, such as AMD India Private Limited, are unlisted.
AMD share price in INR and the latest results
AMD closed at US$552.72 on 21 October 2026, about ₹52,351 at that day’s RBI reference rate of ₹94.7145 (source: FBIL). Its 52-week range was US$188.22 (3 March 2026) to US$658.52 (6 October 2026), and its market value about US$902 billion (our calculation, on the 10-Q share count).
In the quarter to 27 June 2026, revenue rose 50% to US$11,536 million:
| Segment | Revenue | Year on year |
|---|---|---|
| Data Center | US$6,718 million | +107% |
| Client and Gaming (Client US$3,062 million, +23%; Gaming US$779 million, −31%) | US$3,841 million | +6% |
| Embedded | US$977 million | +19% |
Gross margin was 54% (40% a year earlier), or 56% on AMD’s adjusted (non-GAAP) measure. On 4 August AMD guided third-quarter revenue of “approximately $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million” at an adjusted gross margin of about 56%; it reports on 3 November after the US close (after 2:30 am IST on 4 November).
No dividend, buybacks and dilution
AMD pays no dividend: its 10-K filed in 2005 said “We have never paid cash dividends on our stock”, and its 2025 10-K says it “does not expect to pay dividends in the near future”. US$9.2 billion of its US$14 billion buyback authority remained on 27 June 2026.
The 10-Q says warrants issued to OpenAI (October 2025) and Meta (February 2026) each allow the purchase of “up to 160 million shares” at US$0.01 a share. They vest in tranches tied to GPU purchase milestones and share-price targets, with further conditions before exercise, and as of 27 June 2026 “no warrant shares had vested or become exercisable”. Exercising all 320 million would add 19.6% to the 1,632.5 million shares outstanding on 29 July 2026 (our calculation).
Ways to own AMD from India
- GIFT City app: a broker regulated in GIFT City holds the shares in its name for the benefit of its customers (an omnibus account), not in your own name. Apps include Tickertape, INDmoney and Platizio Global; on 22 October 2026, the first two offered AMD in fractions from US$1, so check that your app lists AMD.
- US exchange-traded funds (ETFs): AMD was 9.22% of SOXX and 3.77% of QQQ (issuer files, 20 October 2026) and 5.49% of SMH (21 October); see semiconductor ETFs compared.
- Indian funds (sharpely data, secondary; NAVs from mfapi.in, an AMFI mirror): AMD was 4.19% of Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 ETF (30 September 2026), which closed 11.7% above net asset value (NAV) on 21 October. Mirae Asset S&P 500 Top 50 ETF (2.36% AMD) closed 53.7% above NAV and, like several funds of funds, shows “All transactions suspended temporarily”, though it still trades on NSE.
Not AMD shares (issuers’ pages, 22 October 2026): AMDIND; crypto tokens such as AMDx and AMDon (Ondo says its tokens “are not themselves stocks, ETFs or ADRs”; India may tax them as virtual digital assets); 2x AMD ETFs such as GraniteShares AMDL, which reset daily and whose issuer warns an investor “could lose the full principal value” in a day (leveraged ETFs explained); and contracts for difference or perpetual futures, which LRS money cannot fund.
How to buy AMD shares in India: the steps
- Open an account: KYC with PAN and Aadhaar, plus Form W-8BEN, which certifies you are not a US person.
- Remit under the LRS from your own bank account.
- Order Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD on Nasdaq): an amount buys a fraction; some apps take limit orders only for whole shares.
- Trade in US hours: 7:00 pm–1:30 am IST until Friday 30 October 2026, then 8:00 pm–2:30 am IST from Monday 2 November, after US clocks change on 1 November (US market timings). Trades settle the next business day (T+1).
What a ₹50,000 purchase costs
Fees are one GIFT City app’s published rates (22 October 2026); others differ.
| Item | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Order | ₹50,000 ÷ ₹94.7145 (RBI reference rate, 21 October 2026) | US$527.90 |
| Fees | Brokerage 0.29% (minimum US$1) US$1.531 + IGST 18% US$0.276 + 0.005% IFSCA (GIFT City regulator) fee US$0.026 | US$1.833 (0.35%), about ₹174 |
| Bank’s exchange-rate markup | SBI’s telegraphic transfer (TT) selling rate, ₹95.05 on 21 October, is 0.35% higher | About ₹176 |
| GST on currency conversion | 18% × 1% × ₹50,000 | ₹90 |
| All-in cost | ₹174 + ₹176 + ₹90 | About ₹440 (0.88%) |
That leaves about 0.95 share. Bank charges and markups vary; SBI’s card rate is for ₹10–20 lakh transfers.
TCS on LRS (section 394) affects cash flow: as banks charge it, remitting ₹15 lakh in 2026-27 means 20% × (₹15,00,000 − ₹10,00,000) = ₹1,00,000 collected, credited against your tax.
How AMD shares are taxed in India
For residents in tax year 2026-27 (Income-tax Act, 2025):
- Gains: long-term after more than 24 months, taxed at 12.5% without indexation (section 197) plus surcharge and cess, with no ₹1.25 lakh exemption; short-term at your slab rate. A ₹1 lakh gain costs ₹13,000 long-term or ₹31,200 at the 30% slab, with cess but before surcharge (tax on US stocks).
- Exchange rate: SBI’s TT buying rate for the month-end before the sale (Rule 206); converting the purchase cost is unsettled, so ask a chartered accountant.
- Dividends: none from AMD; US ETFs holding it pay dividends, which lose 25% to US tax with Form W-8BEN.
- Schedule FA (foreign assets): report the shares for every calendar year held, at any value; the ₹10 lakh Black Money Act penalty does not apply if foreign assets other than immovable property total ₹20 lakh or less.
- US estate tax: non-residents who are not US citizens get only US$60,000 of US-situs assets free (about 108.6 AMD shares on 21 October); rates reach 40%.

Risks from AMD’s filings
AMD’s 10-Q (5 August 2026) lists, among others:
- Export controls and China: April 2025 licence rules on MI308 chips brought “approximately $440 million of net inventory and related charges in 2025”; MI325 chips licensed for China in February 2026 face a 25% US tariff on import for inspection.
- Competition: Nvidia “leverages its market position in the data center GPU market”.
- TSMC and Taiwan: TSMC makes all wafers for AMD’s processors and GPUs at 7 nm or smaller, and “geopolitical changes between China and Taiwan could disrupt” its Taiwan-based suppliers.
Prices swing too: AMD fell 17.3% on 4 February 2026, the day after results (Nasdaq data), and rupee moves can add to or cut returns.
