You can buy Nvidia (NVDA) shares from India, but not on an Indian exchange: NVDA is listed on Nasdaq in the US. The direct routes are a GIFT City app or an overseas broker, both funded under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS); Indian funds that hold Nvidia give indirect exposure.
Key takeaways
- How to buy Nvidia shares in India: open a GIFT City app account, fund it under LRS and buy NVDA; most apps sell fractions from US$1.
- NVDA closed at US$221.30 on 14 October 2026: about ₹21,039 at the RBI reference rate of ₹95.0691 (15 October 2026).
- TCS (tax collected at source) of 20% applies only above ₹10 lakh of LRS remittances in a financial year.
- Depository receipts on NSE IX, NSE’s GIFT City exchange, have taken no new buys since 30 July 2026; some Indian funds holding Nvidia are closed to new money.
- US market hours are 7:00 pm–1:30 am Indian time (IST) until 30 October 2026, then 8:00 pm–2:30 am IST from 2 November.
Can I buy Nvidia stock in India?
Yes. A GIFT City app keeps your account with an intermediary in India’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA); the intermediary buys through a US broker. Both direct routes use your LRS limit of US$250,000 a financial year.
| Route | What you own | Status, 15 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| GIFT City app | NVDA held in the intermediary’s name for you; fractions from $1 on most apps | Open |
| Overseas broker under LRS, such as Interactive Brokers | NVDA in your own account at the US broker | Open |
| Indian mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF) | Rupee units of a fund with about 8–10% in Nvidia | Many closed to new money |
| NSE IX depository receipt | A receipt on a US share, without voting rights | No new buys since 30 July 2026 |
Tokenised NVDA and contracts for difference (CFDs) only track the price; they are not Nvidia shares.
Indian funds that hold Nvidia

How to buy Nvidia shares in India through a GIFT City app
- Open an account. Complete KYC (know-your-customer checks) in the app with your PAN and Aadhaar, a tax-residency declaration (FATCA/CRS) and Form W-8BEN. W-8BEN certifies you are not a US person, cutting US tax on your dividends from 30% to the India–US treaty rate of 25%.
- Send money under LRS. Transfer rupees from your own bank account; many apps file Form A2, the LRS form, for you. TCS of 20% applies to the part of your total LRS remittances in a financial year above ₹10 lakh (section 394 of the Income-tax Act, 2025), and you claim it back in your return. Remitting ₹15 lakh in 2026-27 means TCS of 20% × (₹15,00,000 − ₹10,00,000) = ₹1,00,000.
- Wait for the dollars: same day to five business days, depending on the app and bank.
- Place your order. Search for NVDA and enter a dollar amount (to buy a fraction) or a share count. A market order fills at the current price, which can jump after news: NVDA opened 6.3% above its previous close after its 26 August 2026 results. A buy limit order fills only at your price or lower; some apps, such as Platizio Global, typically accept limit and stop orders only for whole shares.
- Trade in US hours. The regular session runs 7:00 pm–1:30 am IST until Friday 30 October 2026. US clocks go back an hour on Sunday 1 November, so from Monday 2 November it runs 8:00 pm–2:30 am IST.
Platizio Global (Platizio Services LLP) offers US-listed stocks and ETFs, including NVDA, through ViewTrade’s GIFT City (IFSC) entity.
Nvidia share price in India: a rupee conversion
There is no Indian price, only a conversion: $221.30 × ₹95.0691 = about ₹21,039 (14 October 2026 close; RBI reference rate, 15 October 2026). You pay more once your bank’s exchange-rate markup, brokerage and GST are added.
Old prices near $750 or above $1,200 predate two stock splits: 4-for-1 (split-adjusted trading from 20 July 2021) and 10-for-1 (from 10 June 2024). Divide a pre-June 2024 price by 10, and a pre-July 2021 price by 40, to compare. A split does not change a holding’s value.
Nvidia raised its quarterly dividend from $0.01 to $0.25 a share in May 2026 and last paid it on 1 October 2026: $1.00 a year, about 0.45% of the $221.30 price. The board sets each dividend, so future payments are not assured.
What buying Nvidia costs, and how it is taxed
Costs. As of 15 October 2026, published brokerage on GIFT City apps ranges from 0.05% to 0.29% of the order, usually plus 18% GST. Most apps also pass on IFSCA’s 0.005% turnover fee, and sales carry a US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) fee of 0.00206%. Bank exchange-rate markups are often the largest cost: two banks charged about 0.6% and 2.0% over the interbank rate on 20 February 2026.
Worked example: ₹50,000 of NVDA at Platizio Global’s published rates (0.29% brokerage, minimum $1; 18% IGST; 0.005% IFSCA fee), before the bank’s markup.
| Item | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Dollars | ₹50,000 ÷ ₹95.0691 | $525.93 |
| Shares | $525.93 ÷ $221.30 | 2.3766 |
| Brokerage | 0.29% × $525.93 | $1.53 |
| IGST | 18% × $1.53 | $0.27 |
| IFSCA fee | 0.005% × $525.93 | $0.03 |
| Total fees | $1.83 (0.35%), about ₹174 |
Tax for residents, tax year 2026-27 (April 2026 to March 2027).
- Capital gains. NVDA is not listed in India, so it is long-term only if held for more than 24 months (section 2(101) of the Income-tax Act, 2025). Long-term gains are taxed at 12.5% without indexation (section 197), with no ₹1.25 lakh exemption; short-term gains at your slab rate.
- Dividends are taxed at your slab rate on the gross amount, with credit for the US tax under section 159 through Form 44. FY 2025-26 income still follows the Income-tax Act, 1961, and Form 67.
- Disclosure. Report NVDA in Schedule FA, the foreign-assets schedule of your return, every year you hold it.
- US estate tax. US shares count as US assets even when held through a nominee; if a non-resident’s US assets exceed $60,000 at death, Form 706-NA must be filed.
More: tax on US stocks via GIFT City.
Nvidia-specific risks
From Nvidia’s SEC filings and price history:
- Reliance on data centres: the Data Center business produced $89.0 billion of $96.2 billion revenue (92.5%) in the quarter to 26 July 2026.
- Customer concentration: one direct customer was 16% of that quarter’s revenue.
- China: export controls can shut whole markets; the current-quarter outlook assumes no data-centre computing revenue from China.
- Competition from AMD, Huawei, Intel and cloud companies that design their own chips.
- Commitments: $99 billion of equity investments and $25 billion more committed (26 July 2026), plus lease guarantees capped at $105 billion tied to OpenAI.
- Volatility: falls of 66% (November 2021 to October 2022), 37% (January to April 2025) and 20% (October 2025 to March 2026), including 17% in one day on 27 January 2025.
